I got my proof copy of Somewhat Alive in last week. On the one hand, it was really cool to see my book in person and see it looking…real, but on the other hand, my book was gigantic. I researched before selecting a size and the internet assured me that the industry standard is six by nine inches.
The internet lied. I don’t know, maybe six by nine is industry standard for hardcover or nonfiction, but for a YA zombie book, it was laughably oversized. Luckily, my friends over at 100 Covers were willing to resize my cover for me, so all is not lost.
I definitely see the value of proof copies now. I’m going to have to order another one, once I get the sizing squared away. I’m just hoping the next iteration is not laughably small. We shall see.
It’s the final week of school for my kids, which I am thrilled about, as I know they are too. I like education and learning, but I dislike deadlines and stress, so the break will be nice for all of us.
I’m about to shift hardcore into Christmas prep. This time of year, I’m often reminded of that episode in The Middle, where Frankie says Christmas is hard and then Mike is like, just make a todo list and do the things, and then he does, but Frankie doesn’t like him doing all the fun Christmas stuff. And of course, in the end, Mike messes up some details and admits that Christmas is hard.
Christmas is glorious, but also busy and expensive. I always wish there was a way to keep the magic of Christmas while cutting down on the obligation and expense and commercialism.
You know, I actually googled schedules to follow to make Christmas less stressful and make sure you get everything done, but all of them agreed that you needed to start in August, September at the latest. (#doomed)
Oh well. It’s fine. I always manage to get Christmas done every year, even if some years we don’t end up doing everything fun that I can think of. It’s a common problem with me—I can think up way more fun things than we have time or money for. It’s a gift and a curse.
We don’t currently have Netflix, but I think that new Christmas movie with Lindsay Lohan looks like a winner. If you’ve seen it, do let me know how it was. I suspect it’s pure Christmas magic and not at all tritely predictable.
I just realized I’ve been writing this blog for over a year now, and this is the second time I’ve written about Christmas. I wonder if I went back to last year and reread what I wrote if it would be pretty much identical. I’m not going to look. If I’ve stagnated, I don’t want to know. Besides, I’m sure none of my loyal readers will remember what I wrote about Christmas last year. Right, loyal readers?
At least our Christmas tree is up and the house is reasonably clean as long as you don’t open that door. So all things considered, We’re doing pretty good this year.
