I’d like to lodge a formal complaint about ISBNs being so expensive in America. I understand they are very reasonably priced in pretty much any other country. And why do we have to only buy them from Bowker? I was under the impression that America prefers competitive markets and does not go for monopolies.

I’m probably going to buy them anyway, but I don’t like it. I also find the sliding scale pricing to be annoying. Surely people don’t all want to buy only one, ten, or one-hundred ISBNs. It kind of feels like that one episode of Flight of the Conchords where Bret says he can bring croutons. I was going to summarize it, but the actual quote is pretty funny, so here it is:

New Zealand Prime Minister Brian : Bret, what can you bring?

Bret : I can make half a dozen croutons.

New Zealand Prime Minister Brian : Half a dozen? Do you think you could go higher than half a dozen?

Bret : 900?

Murray : They’d be very small. Almost like crumbs.

New Zealand Prime Minister Brian : 900? No, I think that’s too many. Try and split the difference. Try and come down from 900 but up from six or seven.

Bret : I could probably make 15 croutons, if you like.

New Zealand Prime Minister Brian : Excellent. Excellent idea. You’re showing promise, young man.

I’m probably going to buy ten ISBNs, but I wish they weren’t so expensive and that I could just buy the amount of ISBNs I actually need rather than trying to guess and paying less per ISBN the more I can stomach buying at once.

Unrelated to writing, last Friday, I had some stuff to do, so I had my hair up in a scrunchie to keep it out of the way and when I took it down later, it feel into the most beautiful soft curls you’ve ever seen. It was a hair miracle.

And I’ve been putting my hair up like that every day since, and I can’t seem to get it to happen again. My hair is back to its old wavy, frizzy, messy, wild ways. I keep telling myself that waves are not failed curls, but I’m not sure anyone truly believes it.

Also, my dishwasher is still broken. In case you were wondering.
