I’ve been hitting the songwriting pretty hard lately. We’re trying to write seven songs in seven days and then we’re going to pick the best of them and polish it up and see if we can make it good.
Whenever we write songs, I’m reminded of that part in Dogs Don’t Tell Jokes, where Goon says that a joke is like a dead fish. Sometimes you don’t realize it stinks until the next day.
It’s very important to return to your song another day and see if it does, in fact, stink. Sometimes they do. Sometimes they don’t.
I found out that Louis Sacher published a fourth Wayside School book, which I am very excited about. That was one of my many favorite book series as a kid and I think it totally holds up reading them as an adult now.
That’s sort of my goal with my writing, too. I want to write books that can be enjoyed by many different ages. The younger the book is, the harder it is to make something that any age of person can like, but I think it’s doable. Certainly other people have done it.
I’ve posted seventeen episodes of Somewhat Alive on Kindle Vella now. And there’s only going to be thirty-one episodes, so that’ll be over before I know it, especially if I can keep up the pace of posting one most weekdays.
Before I post one, I always read it over twice, just to try to make sure I’ve caught absolutely everything. For the most part, I think I have, but I know how easy it is to miss something, especially after you’ve read it so many times.
I was also thinking that I need to finish editing Fiercest Chicken and get that ready to start posted on Kindle Vella, once I’m done with Somewhat Alive. And of course, I need to write the sequel of Somewhat Alive.
I was thinking before I release Somewhat Alive as an ebook, I really ought to write a free novella that I can offer people at the end of the book, plus a sneak peak at book two. I do think book two is going to come together well. I’ve got a lot of ideas for it.
Lots to do, really. Probably I should go get some more coffee. It helps.
