I like the idea of sabbaticals a lot. I love the idea of taking time off and having an extended period of rest to refresh your creativity and enable you to return with renewed enthusiasm and verve.
Unfortunately, I also like the idea of being incredibly productive at all times. Is there really any better feeling than looking back over your day and being able to point to tangible accomplishments? You can be like, look at me, I did all this! In only one day!
This is silly, because in all actuality, no one is ever all that impressed with my accomplishments of the day. But I suppose that’s why we have the Instagram, so that when our loved ones grow weary of admiring us, we have a whole host of strangers just waiting to click that heart.
By the way, do follow me on Instagram, if you don’t already. You’ll be getting some high quality content and can hear about all my accomplishments, like when I do the dishes or write a new poem. You don’t want to miss out.
Speaking of poetry, I actually do have a new poem to share with you all. I wrote it by special request. It’s about whales.
WHALES
In the sea, there lived a whale
And he was small from head to tail
He wanted to get bigger though
Cause that’s how whales should be
He asked his mother what to eat
To grow as big as forty feet
She said the best thing whales could eat
Was lots and lots of kale
The little whale searched the sea
until he found some kale to eat
He crunched it up between his teeth
But it tasted really foul
Oh, yuck, he thought disgustedly
This kale stuff is not fit to eat
It’s green and bitter, like a leaf
But I do want to be a big whale
Then his mother swam up cheerfully
and asked him why he ate those leaves
The little whale sighed and then explained
That he was trying to eat kale
There’s been a mistake, his mother said
A misunderstanding, if you will
You see, it’s not kale whales should eat
but actually, it’s krill
