April has been a really busy month. And it’s only April 6th. It feels like it’s been longer. My kids have been busy going to appointments and activities. And oddly, my husband and I have been unusually active socially. I’m sure it won’t last, so I’m not too worried. The same people seldom invite us twice.
I’m just kidding. We’re delightful. Definitely invite us to hang out sometime. We’re free in May. Or maybe June.
I’ve been working on my book marketing skills, which is difficult, because I’m starting off without any. But I’m learning. It’s kind of ironic in a way. When I was in college, everybody made fun of the marketing majors because they were probably the least academically-minded of any other group on campus. In hindsight, I should have joined the marketing majors in their lackadaisical ways. My history degree just doesn’t come in that handy most of the time.
In other news, I really don’t like to brag, but yesterday, I had what may have been the most epic nap of all time. I got my Lord of the Rings blanket and the cat joined me on the couch and we slept for two hours. And afterward, we both felt amazing. In fact, the cat felt so good, she slept for several more hours, but I had to get up and do human things.
The problem with human things is that there’s always something that needs doing. Something to buy or plan or clean or go to. And sometimes, all those things compete for the most urgent. In fact, right now, I can feel the unfolded clothes pulling me from the laundry room, while the uncooked dinner tugs at me from the kitchen. Plus the cat is urging me to take another nap with her. She’s a bad influence.
Sometimes I ask myself if it would really hurt anything to just leave the dishes in the sink for a while, but I usually decide it would hurt, because eventually, we’d run out of clean dishes. Then we’d have no other choice but to get takeout for every meal. That doesn’t sound that bad, actually.
I read a book once that said that dishes aren’t really that bad as long as you do them everyday, which is probably true, but sometimes we go through so many dishes that I almost need to do them twice a day. And if we’re being honest, I didn’t really even want to do them at all.
Anyway, I probably should go cook dinner before the cat comes and settles down for a nap. She’s persuasive.
