2020 gets a lot of hate, which it most definitely deserves. But personally, 2019 was worse. I think about that sometimes. Despite the global craziness of 2020, it was a delight compared to my 2019.
In fact, back in January of 2020, I remember feeling this desperate desire for a vacation. After the horridness of 2019, I just felt it. We needed a break, a chance to rest, to recover from everything.
When it comes to a relaxing vacation, I believe you cannot beat cruising. Once you get on the ship, you’re good. No worries. Eat what you want and do what you want and sleep when you want. We never buy the internet package, so we are completely disconnected from emails and texts and news. It’s heavenly.
So in January 2020, desperate for a vacation, we booked a cruise for April 2020. Naturally, this did not work out well. Our cruise got canceled and we rescheduled for October 2020. I remember thinking, no way we’ll still be dealing with the pandemic by October.
Naturally, this also did not work out well. After our October cruise got canceled, we didn’t bother rebooking. I wasn’t really all that keen on cruising during a pandemic anyway and by that time it was clear that the Covid was not a short term problem.
We haven’t really gone anywhere in the past three years, vacation-wise. We’ve visited family and spent some time at Disney World and Universal. But neither of these can come close to competing with the refreshment that comes with leaving your worries at the dock and sailing off into the sunset, where your biggest problem is that you’re too full from your three course dinner to eat anything at the midnight buffet. I am pleased to say that 2021 has been a lot better to us than 2019 or 2020. We still haven’t managed to go on that vacation, but we did book a cruise for January. It’s nothing fancy, but I’m really, really looking forward to it. We booked shore excursions through the ship for each stop, too, so once we board, there will be absolutely nothing to worry about.
A lot of people like balconies, but I always think that inside staterooms are the best because you don’t get that pesky sunlight waking you up every morning at sunrise. And you can take the most epic naps in the afternoon, because it’s perfectly dark inside. We even got the kids their own stateroom so they won’t be sleeping in bunks over our bed and we’ll all have enough room without feeling claustrophobic.
We’ve needed this vacation for so long now and it cannot get here soon enough.
