Yesterday, Facebook and Instagram were both down. And WhatsApp, but I don’t use that one anyway. It always feels so odd when internet things go down. Like, it’s Facebook and Instagram and they are always there in the background of your day.

I have a love/hate relationship with Instagram. (I have a much more simpler hate relationship with Facebook.) I want to love Instagram, but I don’t know. There are so many other people out there who seem just like me. And you’d think that’d be a good thing, because I could be friends with them, but it ends up just making me feel a bit…common.

I also tend to second guess all my posts. After all, does anyone really need to know that I spent the weekend at Disney World again? Or that I’ve went for another oat milk latte from Kookaburra? Or that I got a haircut and I love how easy my hair is now?

It’s usually pretty simple to tell myself that if people don’t want to see what I’m up to, they can unfollow me. Of course, sometimes they do. Ouch.

So yesterday, when the social medias were down, I starting thinking, what if they never come back? Just…that’s it. Mark Zuckerberg decided he has enough money and just shut the whole thing down. Wouldn’t that be kind of fun?

I mean, probably something even worse would pop up to take it’s place, but still. It’s intriguing to think about a world where all social media was just…gone. And I think if it happened, the world would probably be a better place.

Also, please do follow me on Instagram and Twitter—@katelexiebooks. I’m probably going to get an oat milk latte in a bit here. You don’t want to miss it.
